Charlottesville Lifestyle : Victoria & Vasily

There are two kinds of people in this world.  The ones that entertain… And the ones that observe.  I’m sort of both of those smashed together in a warm and gooey kind of way.  I use my lens to look beyond what the human eye sees and capture the moments in between, observing the unseen.  I use my charm and the amazing sense of humor that was given to me from the big guy upstairs to get them to relax and be themselves…  I entertain as well as observe.  Don’t ask how I multi-task, I wouldn’t be able to explain it even if I knew myself.  I just know that I absolutely LOVE this job!

Victoria and Vasily have been in our lives for a little over two years.  We started this friendship when they chose to sit with us at a mutual friend’s wedding.  Observing those two was quite the entertainment at that wedding.  I instantly knew they had the sort of chemistry that many couple lack.  They were so laid back and comfortable with who they were, I wanted to know more about them and use my extreme observing talent to make them more familiar to me in my life.  Good thing I have, because after two years of (how should I put this) “hanging out” (I really need to broaden my vocabulary)  we have gotten closer then ever, and I’m extremely thankful to God for sending us these two crazy kids in our lives and have the honor to call them…  Friends.

These next two were in my top FAVORITES!

While I was taking these two…

V was taking this masterpiece which ended up being my favorite image from his cards.

Another of my absolute favorites from this shoot…

When I was finished shooting the above image, V captured them trying to sneak in a kiss…  Told you they had crazy chemistry ;)

And I will finish with this last image that completes my top favorites list.

Please do enjoy this slideshow.

Happy Happy Friday!  Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Our forth year begins.

Wednesday marked the end of our three years and the start of our forth year marriage journey, and we are SO EXCITED!  We are incredible dorks when it comes to love…  We like to think we’re absolute experts on this whole thing, but know and acknowledge that we still have a lot to learn and grow in.  Marriage is something that should get better, stronger, and more loving with every year…  And looking back at our first year it has gotten closer and closer to being perfect with every new year.  We are not only peas in a pod and look perfect together for each other…  We’re actually head over heals in love with each other and most importantly we’re in love with LOVE!  Which makes us that much more loving towards each other, because God is Love.  He loved us first…  And we’re SO glad He did because He blessed our marriage more than we could ever thank Him for.

I know this all sounds cliche and all but…  I AM married to the BEST, most AMAZING, LOVING, and CARING hubs.  The most RESPECTFUL and CUDDLIEST, one who can’t wait to see me every day after work, when going to work, and one who makes the BEST cup of coffee in the mornings.  One who makes chores easier on me, lending his helping hand while making dinner, and who treats his wife better than anyone on this earth counting himself.  One who is whiling to change against his will and pridefulness for the best of his marriage, who wants to do silly things and just lay around laughing all day in the grass.

Ladies…  I hate to break it to you, but the best man is no longer available.  He’s the one who I get to wake up every morning with and fall asleep in his arms every night.  The one that I can get countless of priceless hugs because he would rather spend the time hugging me than doing anything else.  And the one who is one KILLER back-up photographer ;)  And so on and on…

Photographer:  Our sturdy tripod ;)

My gift to V.  A WeWood watch.  They plant a tree for every watch sold and I just knew I had to get that, with my hippie roots feeling all good about doing the planet good. ;)

Yes, it’s REAL wood!

We took a couple days off to enjoy where ever the road would take us and ended up in multiple places.  Our favorite being this cute hotel.

Happy Happy Friday!

Classic Alterations Commercial Photography : Lena

Last week I was over at one of my absolute favorite tailors in Harrisonburg and took some candid shots of her work.  She does a fast and an absolute perfect job at every little detail in clothing and I hope I captured her delightful personality as well.  She includes her smile into every visit and makes sure you have the best customer service.  Hope these make you want to go visit her ;)

Backyard kids + 50mm 1.2L Review

I’m getting back in the mood of blogging.  It’s been awhile I know, but it’s just not the same when you force it.  It’s somehow so much more special when it’s from the bottom of the heart.  I do admit I miss it a whole lot, so I’m glad to be back internet!

So this past week, I had the distinct pleasure of using a 50mm 1.2L.  My most honest thoughts…  I LOVED IT!  It’s absolutely incredible what this lens does.  Some people are not exactly fans of the bokeh that you get when shooting with this lens at 1.2, but I on the other hand love the way you can choose what you want to bring most of the attention on.  In portraiture, I always focus on the eyes and that really makes them stand out, so it’s perfect for what I look for in a photograph.  I know some people don’t believe that with a better/more expensive lens you get better colors, but I assure you it’s true.  Really!

The only flaw of this lens when shooting wide open is it’s a little hard getting the exact thing in focus.  It’s not impossible, but it is harder than with a 1.4 or 1.8.  But the good thing is, is the more you practice the easier it gets.  Though it’s definitely not a lens for beginner/amateur photographers as it is hard to use and produce the pictures you want, I recommend it anyway.

Did you notice how the flaw of this lens is not the price?  I believe it’s worth every dime. :)

Happy Tuesday!

The Homestead Resort Lifestyle : The Wheeler’s

Last Friday we took the day to accompany our Pastor’s family over to Hot Springs Virginia, for a little outing.  It was an hour and a half drive over the mountains and I slept most of the way, but when I felt the car stopping frequently I sat up.  In front was the cutest little town I’ve EVER seen.  It was almost like a storybook picture.  Not kidding.  To our left was a gigantic red building.  I turned to V with huge eyes and said “I hope that’s where we’re headed!”  He nodded in agreement.

To our surprise we slowly drove around to the parking and believe it or not, the huge red building WAS exactly where we were headed.  Driving up to it is not something I can explain in words, one must see it for themselves and experience the amazingness on their own.  But maybe THIS will cure some of that curiosity. ;)

So in other words, we had the time of our lives with this family!

Cuteness overload! :)

These two are so cute! :D

The hotel had beautiful hallways that we took advantage of.

Sadie the Lady doing her thing ;)

Maureen and her daughters are SO close to each other its inspiring!

This is where I had to use V’s camera because my camera had a little malfunctioning issues.

We are so blessed to have friends like these :)

Downtown Staunton Lifestyle :: Eli

As I was working on these images, I was trying to think of a story of when we were younger (my brother and I) to post with these pictures, but I was drawing blank.  Until, I remembered a simple and short memory instead.  I remembered a time when my brother hugged me.  It wasn’t the kind of hug that your mom makes you give to your little siblings because you had to as part of your apology.  It was a simple hug that meant the world to me because it was…  Just because.  It wasn’t the first hug, but it was a different kind of hug.  Something that felt like I’m-so-glad-you’re-in-my-life kind of hug.  Remembering that small memory, I thank God for blessing me with a brother and two sisters.  He could have just made a couple have one child and no more, but no, we are able to have someone who we call, brother or someone who we call, sister.  I thank Him for that.

Older siblings are better than young, I don’t know how any of them put up with me when we were younger.  At age three I’d always break their toys, scribble on their homework, or spill drinks on their things.  I would not have liked me if I had myself as a little sister.  But God shows mercy upon each and every one of us and to me, He made me the youngest. Ha ha.  He just somehow knew that I needed older siblings than young ones.  He knew that if I was the oldest and had three younger siblings, I wouldn’t be able to survive the pressure, the responsibility, and the diaper changes.  ;)  Therefore He made my wonderful sister Ann the oldest and she was a great role-model to us all.  Which by the way celebrated her birthday yesterday.  Eli following her, with being the only brother we three sisters needed.  Olga, the third in row, being the first of us to make it to a classy University…  And me…  Just plain me. :)

I have a lot to be thankful for.

Eli, I can’t say thank you enough times for coming out and being my model…  You were a natural pro. ;)

Winter Collection sold exclusively on Etsy

It’s been about three months now that I’ve been madly in love with yarning, (you know knitting and crocheting things with yarn?)  that I “missed” the opportunity to blog.  I looked back at my blog posts and realized I didn’t even share my christmas presents with you guys…  Or my New Year’s resolutions (to be honest, I haven’t even thought about those myself)  I’ve just been tucked away in my little corner with my shows and yarn.  And I’ve had a blast! It was a perfect time spent to just sit there and have a peaceful five hours a day to myself.  I bet you’re jealous right now. ;)

So that brings me to the next part.  The part where I share my pictures and talk about how I came to opening up my very own ETSY store…  It was quite simple actually.  My sister got into crocheting about four months ago and got me all excited.  I learned how to knit and crochet about 8 years ago and then forgot all about it until recently.  So I relearned with the help of my mother-in-law (knitting) and my sister (crocheting) and decided that I won’t have much room for all the stuff I make so I will sell it.  Ta-Da!  So now on to the pictures, many of you have already seen them on FaceBook, so this is for those that haven’t.  While you enjoy these I am off to work on the big Valentine’s day Picnic surprise for my hubby, and the reason I share this with you guys is because I know V won’t read this and it’ll get you guys excited for the pictures ;)

Staunton Lifestyle :: The Wheeler Family

It was March 2011.  It was still chilly outside though the weather tried to fool us every now and then with a few additional snow flakes here and there. We opened the double white door and stepped inside of what became one of our favorite places to be at.  Quietly and swiftly we found ourselves a seat on the very last pew, not wanting to get any more attention than we have already.  And it began…  The very first day of a new chapter in our lives.  One that has changed every aspect of our existence.  We sat through the service, first being skeptical, later relaxing, and by the end we felt like this is where we belong.  Afterwards we were ambushed by a crowd of warm hugs, smiles and loving people.  And then we went over to house that serves the Lord.  A house that you feel radical love and never ending care.  This is the house of our dear Pastor Wheeler and his lovely wife Maureen.

It was December 2011.  Not as cold as we remember last year to have been but chilly.  The weather tried to fool us into thinking it was spring every now and then with a  few additional warm breezes here and there.  We opened our front door and packed the car with our camera equipment and took off to Staunton.  The second best place in Virginia (the first being Alexandria, of course).  Arriving we met the rest of the Wheeler family (though three siblings were still missing) and fell in love with each and every one of them especially little baby Sadie.  And the rest I’ll let the pictures explain…

Staunton Downtown Lifestyle :: The Makitrin Family

Fall has crept up on us quite fast this year… I remember all the years before, for some reason the trees were brightly colored for weeks!  This year half the trees turned orange-yellow while the others stood green and then BAM they all turned brown, just like that, within a week.  And I was quite looking forward to this Autumn season.

I love pumpkin carving, fall decorations, and the fresh smell of pumpkin pie on these cold days.  Warm roasted tomato soup with crispy grilled cheese sandwiches, dressing up in layers upon layers, and families coming together to celebrate Thanksgiving!  Seriously what more should I say to convince you that Autumn is awesome?! ;)  But the thing that doesn’t compare to anything that I just named is, families enjoying the changing of the leaves so much, they go out to take pictures!

And that brings us to the Makitrin family!  We went out yesterday to walk around the beautiful downtown of our beloved Staunton and capture the beauty of God’s work along with the beauty of this blessed family.  And God couldn’t have sent better weather for us to do just that! ;)  Truly a blessing!

A sister’s lifestyle :: Olga

I haven’t been slacking, I promise…  (Reason) It’s just you see, all of last week I was babysitting my wonderful nieces and nephew.  So I decided to take a whole week off  because I simply was exhausted (Excuse).  So this Tuesday I finished everything, the wedding, and the lifestyle, and am ready to share with you guys.  Thank you for not loosing any hope and checking back everyday on me. ;)

Now as I’ve mentioned in the “sneak peak” of this shoot before, this is a SOOC (Straight out of the camera) post.  And as much as I’d love to say and explain to everyone that I was “going for some sort of effect” (Excuse), I won’t and am glad that I’m doing this post this way because I want feedback NOT on my photoshopping skills but on my picture taking skills (Reason).

So thanks for stopping by and enjoy this awesome lifestyle shoot that we had with my sis.  She was amazing and so much fun to hang out with!  AND she took us out to the most amazing little taverna that serves the county’s best ribs!  Thanks sis for an amazing time.
